The IAPRD grew out of the World Federation of Neurology’s Parkinsonism & Related Disorders Research Group that was begun more than 60 years ago to promote and monitor research developments, and foster communication among neuroscientists in the field. The group’s first meeting was held in Montreal in 1959. In 2010, Prof. Dr. Erik Wolters and Prof. Dr. Zbigniew Wszolek founded the IAPRD as a separate, independent organization, and served as IAPRD’s original officers.
